Life of Muhammad (SM): A Light for All Humanity
Prophet Muhammad (SM), the last and final messenger of Allah, was born in the holy city of Makkah in 570 AD, a year famously known as the “Year of the Elephant.” His noble lineage belonged to the Quraish tribe, a highly respected tribe of Arabia. However, his early life was marked by hardship. His father, Abdullah, passed away before his birth, and his mother, Amina, died when he was only six years old. He then came under the care of his grandfather, Abdul Muttalib, and later his uncle, Abu Talib.
From a young age, Muhammad (SM) was known for his exceptional character, honesty, and truthfulness. People trusted him so much that they called him Al-Amin, meaning “the trustworthy.” As a young man, he worked as a shepherd and later as a merchant, where his integrity and fair dealings earned him great respect.
At the age of 25, Muhammad (SM) married Khadijah (RA), a noble and wealthy businesswoman who admired his honesty and gentle nature. Their marriage was built on love, trust, and mutual respect. Khadijah (RA) supported him throughout his life, especially during the early years of his Prophethood.
When Muhammad (SM) turned 40, he often spent time in deep reflection and prayer in the cave of Hira, near Makkah. It was during one of these moments that Angel Jibreel (AS) came to him with the first revelation:
“Read, in the name of your Lord who created you.”
This marked the beginning of his mission as the Messenger of Allah.
The people of Makkah were initially hostile to his message of Tawheed (the oneness of Allah) and equality among all humans. He and his followers faced severe persecution, insults, and even torture. Despite all challenges, Prophet Muhammad (SM) remained steadfast, patient, and merciful even to his enemies. His message emphasized faith, justice, kindness, and the importance of good character.
After years of hardship in Makkah, he migrated to Madinah in 622 AD, an event known as the Hijrah. There, he established the first Islamic state based on fairness, unity, and peace. The Constitution of Madinah, created under his guidance, was a groundbreaking document that ensured the rights of all communities, including non-Muslims.
Prophet Muhammad (SM) was not only a spiritual leader but also a wise statesman, a loving husband, a caring father, and a true reformer. His life is a perfect example of humility, compassion, and forgiveness. He forgave even those who harmed him, showing that mercy is more powerful than revenge.
In his farewell sermon, Prophet Muhammad (SM) delivered one of the greatest messages to humanity:
All humans are equal, regardless of race or status.
Women have rights and should be treated with respect.
The Qur’an and Sunnah will always guide Muslims.
Prophet Muhammad (SM) passed away in 632 AD in Madinah, but his teachings continue to inspire billions of people worldwide. He is called “Rahmatul-lil-Alameen” (Mercy to the Worlds) because his message was for all of humanity, not just for one nation or generation.
